With the launch the up coming Apple Duo in October, I thought it might be a good idea to have a look at the phone it is up against – The Galaxy Z Fold 8 that was launched in July this year (2026).
The major difference from the Fold 7 is that the Fold 8 has a thinner profile, with a redesign of the form, so that the 5.5 inch outside screen has a 10:16 format which works well with social media feeds, but when open, the 7.6 inch inside screen has a 4:3 format, better for viewing movies and reading e-books.

The big question is always whether you can see the crease? Yes its there but less visible than previous Fold models. You can feel a slight dip if you run your finger across the screen but you will only really notice it if you are looking at an angle.
Everyone wants to know about battery life and Samsung claim that you can get 26 hours of video playback on their 4,800mAh battery. By any standard that pretty impressive and should easily get you through a long haul flight or a lazy day in bed! Even with this powerful battery, this edition of the Fold is Samsung’s lightest yet.
There are three storage options – 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. But as usual you will pay for those. An option would be to utilise your cloud storage!
On the camera side, you get a powerful 50MP camera, that records in 8K. This camera should give you quality photos and videos even in low light conditions. A 10MP on the camera on the cover screen is pretty good too and a useful feature for some is “Dual Recording”. Record what you can see and yourself at the same time.
Using one of the many AI features you can identify a subject and the phone will track them and crop photos as appropriate saving you lots of editing time.
Get everyone in the shot at an event or a gathering with friends and then put the spotlight on one person later with Galaxy AI. On Galaxy Z Fold8’s main screen, change wide-angle shots into subject-centered tracking shots cropped to your choice of aspect ratio for easier, more precise edits right from your Gallery.
The phone has been designed with AI in mind and so you get an enhanced experience, for example, take a photo of a interesting building that caught your eye. The AI can locate it, give you the history of it, book accommodation nearby etc.
So should you buy the Fold 8. Unless you are a committed Apple user, then why not. Its available now, today. Its based an years of experience producing a folding phone.
Would I wait. If I was replacing an existing Samsung Fold or my phone was still relatively new, I might wait to see whether Samsung offer some discounts on the release of the Apple Duo.
